One of my favorite genetic tests is one that looks at the patient’s genetic predisposition to assimilate food, their tendency towards nutritional deficiencies, how genetically they respond to diets and macro nutrition, and how they respond to different types of activities.

Some people, no matter how much they exercise, eat healthy or watch their caloric intake, still find they cannot lose weight. When testing for thyroid dysfunction, satiation hormones such as leptin, insulin and blood sugar are all important. However, sometimes we are just genetically wired to be a certain build. Genetic testing can help determine what type of activity has the greatest impact on your weight and health. I believe that genes partially explain why some people can lose weight easily on high protein/fat diets, while others lose on vegetarian or whole 30 diets. Genes may partially explain why some people can be super fit doing just Pilates and yoga, while others need to run 5 miles a day just to maintain their weight.

Genetic testing for nutrition and weight loss can provide a very specific guide on how to eat and exercise to get to optimal health and weight.
